MMA and Submission Grappling matches in Thailand

MMA training session Muay Thai sparring @ 3 rounds

It has taken some time, but Thailand has began to appreciate the world of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and have begun to understand the true respect fighters in MMA have for the Muay Thai. Ask any MMA fighter and you get the same answer....want striking skills?....then learn Muay Thai. The fighting science of 8 limbs, Muay Thai, or Thai-boxing uses the feet, elbows, knees, and hands as weapons. Muay Thai fighters are known for their viscious leg kicks, devastating elbows, and powerful knees. MMA fighters quickly realized years ago that the Thai fighters were well versed at stand-up striking skills. So for most MMA fighters of different disciplines, it became Muay Thai and boxing skills for stand-up and a variety of Jiu-Jitsu and grappling for work on the mat. Now fighters in MMA style can get training and the all important "ring / cage" experience they need here at Tiger Muay Thai & MMA Training Camp, Phuket, Thailand.

TMT Guest, Ken, WINS w/ 3rd round KO

TMT guest, Ken put in a solid performance in fighting Muay Thai style with a 3rd round KO over his Thai opponent @ Bangla Muay Thai stadium, Patong, Thailand. From the opening bell, Ken took control of the fight scoring with hand and mixed attack combinations. Moving well around the ring, he set up his Muay Thai opponent with several low leg kicks in a row, and then come in high with blazing combinations to the head leaving the other fighter trying to clich in defense.

The experienced Thai fighter scored with some leg kicks and fought hard in the clinch, but Ken worked his gameplan to perfection almost scoring at will. By the 3rd round, the Thai was not tired but was perplexed by Ken's strikes which came from all angles. A series of hard clinch knees driven to the midsection and chin dropped the Thai midway through the 3rd round and he was unable to rise to the count.

Congratulations to Ken, Kroo Dton and Bom for an excellent fight.

Darron wins 2nd MT fight w/ 3rd. KO

Bangla Muay Thai stadium, April 4, 2006.

TMT Phuket guest, Darron looked very good in a 3rd. round KO over his opponent, Petchsiam, a Thai fighter. Darron has been training hard on his MT style and leg attacks. Using his legs, Darron set up some big straight right shots that wore the big Thai down. The fight was exciting and had the crowd roaring at the hard punches and kicks by both fighters. On his way to a victory, Darron knocked his opponent down 5 times and out with the last hard overhand that sent the Thai halfway through the ropes.

Congratulations Darron, Kroo Phet and Bom and TMT Phuket.

Chok shows skills....loses on tough judges decision

Bangla Stadium, April, 2006.

It was a tough decision all-around. Somebody loses everytime 2 fighters step in the ring, but hard call and judges decisions make it harder. After what most people considered a solid WIN after a good, but technical fight with no knock-downs, Chok came up on losing side against a much taller opponent. Chok looked good from my position at ringside. He moved well, was the more active fighter and landed most of the good shots in the fight. Often he looked overwhelmed by the size of his opponet who was much taller. But like a smart fighter, Chok closed the door inside when clinching and delivered some really nice knee strikes. The biiger Thai, Mondum, was the agressor, but more so because Chok initiated attacks as the bigger Thai stepped forward. Loss is a loss. When asked about the decision, Chok said, "Not up to judges when I KO my opponent." I say, "Good attitude."

WILL wins Phuket's 1st MMA event @ Bangla Stadium w/ submission

Tiger Muay Thai @ MMA sponsored Phuket's 1st MMA event @ Bangla Stadium last night. TMT guests Will and Allan trained and fought in the event. It was an exciting fight from the bell. The fighters threw hard shots and then clinched inside both grappling for position and firing knees to the midsection. Allan seemed to be in position with a good throw taking Will to the canvas, but Will turned the throw and rolled into a perfect mount position.

With his heels hooked into Allan's legs and holding position, Will let loose with a series of hard punches to the face and head of Allan. J.P, who refereed the fight, was ready to stop the fight after Allan took several hard shots to the head, but Allan escaped with a great move and got back to his feet as the crowd cheered.

Will quickly went for a shoot on Allan and came down to the mat with a reverse frontal guillotine choke. Allan tried to roll out of the submission hold but Will locked it in and Allan was forced to Tap-Out and submit.

TMT Phuket wants to thank Allan, Will, Our Thai Promoters, and friends and guests of the camp for a fantastic night of MMA.

TMT Guest Frank and TWINS WIN fight March 20 @ Patong Stadium

The TWINS Chok and Chai each scored points wins oner their opponents, a pair of TWINS from Phuket. Chok and Chai both looked good as they scored repeatedly with kicks and clinch knees inside.

Frank returned to form with a 1st round KO over his opponet after a barrage of combinations that finally brought his opponent down.

Good Frank, Chok, and Chai on a solid night of Muay Thai.

Ngoo fights re-match @ Bangla Stadium March 19.

champion fighter

Ngoo gave a former KO victim a re-match tonight @ Bangla Stadium, Patong, Thailand. Ngoo, who was knocked down in the 2nd round of the previous fight last month, KO'ed his opponent Ramchong with a hard 3rd round elbow. Ngoo accpeted the rematch which has become that evenings "Big Money" fight with that will include heavy gambling.

Good Luck Ngoo and Tiger Muay Thai.

Kroo Dton loses by points in Bangla's Best fight of the Year

Kroo Dton makes Ram Muay Wai Kroo

As I sat at the stadium last night watching the fight, the atmosphere about Bangla Muay Thai Stadium was fevered and hot like the weather. No knockouts so far, you could tell the people were looking for a good fight to end the evening. But as I sat there filming, I wondered if the tourists @ the stadium really understood what was happening in the ring.

Dton fights @ Bangla Stadium 2006.

What most tourists didn't understand was this was two-former high-ranked Thai champions that had been fighting thier whole lives. A combined 500+ Muay Thai fights between the two opponents. Dton, Tiger Muay Thai trainer and former champion at 3 different weight levels started fighting when he was 10-years old. His opponent and equal number of years and battles in the ring. The fighters had met once before in their prime. Dton admitting the first fight was tough as he edged out a points victory more than a decade ago on the hallowed ground of Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok.

Bangla Stadium. March 17, 2006

Now they meet again, here in Phuket. The crowd mostly foreigners now, the combatants a little wiser and ring savy. It was a war from the opening bell. I have watched many a Muay Thai fight here in Thailand, and this was one of the best. Classic and traditional Muay Thai techniques out of the books. Good boxing and kicking. Hard knees and slashing elbows. Dton delivered an elbow early in the first round looking to stop the fight quick, but despite the 2 cm gash along his temple, his opponent pushed forward like a wounded Rhino, his hands and elbows out front in a classic Thai defensive stance waiting for Dton's charge.

Both fighters were hurt. Both fighters came back. Dton hammered his opponent with overhand rights and uppercuts as he would feint his way into position. Dton peppered his opponents ribs with quick kicks and tip-front kicks. His opponent fired back elbows and crushing leg kicks that sent Dton into the ropes. Each round both fighters came out for more, the pace quickening rather than weakening. In the end, someone has to lose a close fight. Dton was on the losing end this time. He won their first fight. How about a re-match?

Congratulations to both fighters on a spectacular fight.

Robere loses Patong Title on Points decision

Thai fighters fights @ Patong Thailand

It was tough night for TMT camp fighter, Robere, as he lost a points decision @ Patong Muay Thai Stadium for the Patong (84 kilo) Title. Robere trained hard for the fight w/ WKL World Muay Thai Champion Blake "The Blade" Lirette and Kroo Yod and Bom. Robere had asked for a delay due to illness , but the promoter did not have time to find a replacement, so Robere accepted. Despite being dehydrated and weak, Robere fought a solid fight scoring with high leg kicks and knees. His Thai opponent, Namchang, however looked good and scored repeatedly with tip kicks keeping the stronger Robere away. Judges called it 49-47 accross the board.

The loss now creates some controversy in Robere's (3) fight series. He may have to face Namchang again before moving on to the Title fight. Robere will also have to win his next 2 fights before he may be granted a rematch.

Good Luck Robere and TMT Phuket

TMT guest Allan competes in his 2nd Muay Thai fight @ Bangla Stadium

Allan WINS fight against former Lumpinee Champion

Tiger Muay Thai & MMA guest, Allan, fought an incredible fight Tuesday night, March 7, @ Bangla Muay Thai Stadium. Allan took on a former Lumpinee champion, Chaiyin, for the AMCO 180 pound title. Early on, Chaiyin attacked Allan's legs with hard leg kicks, but like most opponents, found it hard to get inside Allan's reach with his hands.

The first 2 rounds were back and forth. Chaiyin delivering hard, chopping leg kicks and Allan countering with kicks and straight rights. Allan connected with a few hard shots in the 3rd round and each fighter began to slow from the fast pace.

In the 4th round, Allan showed a lot of heart. Hurting from the viscious leg kicks, Allan stepped up his game and took the fight to his Thai opponent. With a barrage of combinations, leg kicks, and finally throwing his opponent, Chaiyin, to the ground where he failed to stand after a 10 count.

Congratulations Allan and TMT on a great fight that had the crowd screaming and on their feet from the opening bell.

TMT Trainer, Ngoo, WINS by 3rd rd. KO

Winning a fight

Tiger Muay Thai & MMA trainer, Ngoo, fought for the 2nd time in 8 days and scored a BIG 3rd round KO over a highly-touted fighter from South Thailand. Ngoo's opponent came out hard and controlled the beginning of the fight landing hard leg kicks and looping overhand punches. In the 2nd round, Ngoo got hit with a overhand right dropping him to the canvas. The referee appeared ready to stop the fight, but before the referee could react, Ngoo jumped back to his feet, put up his gloves and said he was ready for some more.

Ngoo battled back and was swarmed in his corner between rounds, Both head trainers, Dton and Bom, coached Ngoo about the his opponent dropping his hands after the big overhand shots. Bom told Ngoo to let loose with twin elbows after his opponent fired the overhand. Ngoo showed tremendous heart in the 3rd. round and took the fight to his opponent. Midway through the round, his opponent dropped his hand after a looping overhand and Ngoo slid between the gloves and landed a viscious elbow that dropped the fighter to the canvas cold with a KO.

Congratulations Ngoo for an outstanding fight and never giving up.

Winning a Muay Thai championship @ Bangla Stadium

It was an exciting night for Tiger Muay Thai and MMA on Feb 21, 2006, as guest and gym friend Frank captured the Bangla Stadium AMCO 65 Kilo title with a stunning 2nd Rd. KO over highly touted Thai, Nil-Siam . Frank started slow, looking for his rythem. Near the end of the 1st round, Frank let loose with a series of combinations finishing with a slashing elbow and scoring points. The 2nd round was all Frank's, as he took control of the fight beating the Thai to the punch on serveral occasions and landing two hard elbows. Trying to survive Frank's attack in the corner, Ni-Siam took a hard combo and left hook that sent him to the canvas and Frank to the title.

Tiger Muay Thai Guest Freddie WINS Patong Heavyweight PK-1 Championship

Tiger Muay Thai & MMA training camp guest, Freddie (Holland) captured the Heavyweight PK-1 Title @ Patong Muay Thai stadium last night with a 2nd round KO over his Thai opponent. Freddie has a 3-1 record in Muay Thai fights here in Thailand. Freddie has used his training and fights here in Thailand to prepare for an upcoming fight in Netherlands. Freddie is currently a "B-Class" fighter and is working hard at moving up into "A-Class."

Freddie dominated the fight from the opening bell. Working his reach and using his boxing skills, Freddie jabbed his opponent frequently in the first round. In the 2nd round, Freddie opened up with combinations and knees. His hard leg kicks started to bring his opponents hands down and Freddie capitalized with several good combinations before the Thai finally collapsed to the canvas unable to rise on the count. Congratulations to Freddie and TMT Phuket on a great fight and the new Heavyweight PK-1 Title.

And the KO's just keep on coming !

TMT Phuket Guest Jody wins 2nd fight with another 1st rd. KO
Jody after Muay Thai fight with film crew

It was another exciting night @ Patong Muay Thai Stadium for Tiger Muay Thai & MMA. Guest Jody competed in his 2nd fight and claimed another 1st round KO a little more than 1 minute into the bout. Jody was supposed to fight a visiting foreigner from Bangkok, but after seeing Jody warm-up, the foreigner decided to withdraw from the fight. Main promoter, JayBo called upon her stable of Thai fighters on little notice and saved the night for Jody by inserting a Thai fighter to take the foreigner's place on the evening's Muay Thai card. Either way, it was a great experience and Jody heads back to Holland on Saturday with two 1st round Ko's, 6 weeks of hard Muay Thai & MMA training, and a lot of good memories and friends.

Kroo Dton wins again with 1st Rd. KO

Jaeb (Manager Tiger Muay Thai & MMA), Kroo Phet, Kroo Yod, Kroo Ngoo, and trainer / fighter Nazy. Kroo Dton before his fight on Januaty 31 @ Patong Mauy Thai stadium. Dton unleashes a series of combinations at his foreign opponent.

For the 2nd time in a month, Kroo Dton put on a display of traditional Muay Thai-boxing @ Patong Muay Thai Stadium with a 1st Rd. KO over a foreign opponent. Dton used a variety of traditional Muay Thai techniques surprising the crowd with elbow chops to the top of the head, jumping knees, and flying elbows. The 24-year-old fighter from Germany countered with quick kicks and tip kicks trying to keep Dton outside his defense as the two fighters circled the ring as if they were stalking each other. The circus-like show didn't last long however, as Dton planted two solid knees to his opponents solar plexus dropping him to the canvas. The Bangkok-trained foreigner was unable to gain his breath or rise on the count less than 1:30 into the fight.

There was a large crowd at Patong Muay Thai Stadium on Monday night, and Kroo Dton, a veteran Muay Thai fighter, put on a traditional Muay Thai "Wai Kroo," acting out the legendary Thai hunter scene and firing imaginary arrows like a hunter at his opponent as a good natured "taunt" before the fight. The crowd cheered as Dton danced his "Wai Kroo" and enjoyed the Muay Thai matches throughout the evening.

Guest Jody WINS with 1st Rd. KO

Muay Thai fight Januray 26, 2006 Patong Muay Thai stadium, Phuket, Thailand. Winning a Muay Thai fight

The crowd was cheering and waiting for a knockout. The Patong Muay Thai stadium puts on REAL Muay Thai fights for southern Thailand fighters and foreigners wanting to experience REAL Muay Thai the national sport of Thailand. The first seven fights of the night were all Thai matches including a Womens Muay Thai Fight, but there were no Ko's. Jody's fight was scheduled the last fight of the night as tourist guests love to see foreigners fighting a Thai fighter.....the Main Event.

Jody gave the crowd exactly what they wanted: A Knock-Out. The Thai came out unusually fast and hard, kicking Jody quickly several times which he blocked with his shins and knee. Jody, a tall, lean, and muscular 19-year-old from Holland, countered quickly with what he learned in training. Launching a series of combinations including a 1-2-5-2 combo, Jody followed by quickly clinching and pulling the Thai's head down as he drove two (2) solid knees into the chest and chin of his opponent dropping him hard to the canvas. The Thai was given a standing-eight after taking another combination and solid left uppercut to the chin. Jody ended the fight with another hard knee to the chest, leaving the referee jumping to cover the fallen fighter. Jody was feeling great after the fight and admitted to being nervous and full of energy before stepping in the ring. Jody gave thanks to Kroo Yod, Phet, and Dton and Tiger Muay Thai & MMA after the fight for his training and preparation.
